A Wrinkle in Time captivated my imagination as a child. Time travel, oppressive evil, the triumph of good—what’s not to love? Only late in life did I realize that this book spawned five sequels. An Acceptable Time is the fifth and final book in the Time Quintet series.
As you might expect, this book involves traveling through time—in this case backwards 3,000 years to visit the people living on the same land. The point is not found in the time travel, though. That’s the hook to facilitate deeper meditation. Readers will wrestle with the meaning of sacrifice, pre-Christian virtue, and the connectedness of science and faith.
This is a profoundly good young adult novel. It’s refreshing to read fantasy from a Christian perspective that isn’t preachy, but evokes a subversive attraction to the good, true, and beautiful.
