The Bonehunters coverAnd we’re back. Twice.

We’re back reading Steven Erikson after a short detour with Ian C. Esslemont. We’re also back to the present. Book five in the Malazan Book of the Fallen took us three years back in the narrative to the continent of Lether to explore the fraught relationship between the Tiste Edur and the human residents of the continent. Now in book 6, we’ve returned to Seven Cities in the after math of the Shiek rebellion of book 4. Did you follow that?

Stories of the Malazan empire are complex, and that complexity comes to the fore in The Bonehunters. This book brings together plot threads and characters from former books even as it pulls back the curtain further and reveals what’s going on between the gods.

Bonehunters is a fan favourite, and it’s easy to see why. There’s an a-ha moment with Karsa Orlong that (literally) made me gasp. The complexity’s worth it. The payoff is rich. Now on to book 7.
