The cover of Howard's An Unkindness of MagiciansI bought it for the cover. And because it was on the reduced rack. And because Neil Gaiman blurbed it.

An Unkindness of Magicians is an urban fantasy novel about an elite secret society of magicians and their exploitative ways. It’s a story about insiders and outsiders, and how the used-and-abused can make a difference.

The prose is crisp and descriptive. Case-in-point: the first line. “The young woman cut through the crowded New York sidewalk like a knife” (1). One sentence in and you have already formed an image of the main protagonist.

Kat Howard’s novel is one of those books that will keep you up past your bedtime, finding ways to justify ‘just one more chapter.’
