The lions sing and the hills take flight.
The moon by day, and the sun by night.
Blind woman, deaf man, jackdaw fool.
Let the Lord of Chaos rule.
With this unexpected prophecy lifted from a children’s game, book six of The Wheel of Time begins!
One of the criticisms of the middle books of the Wheel of Time regards the speed of the plot, and that slowdown is evident in Lord of Chaos. The problem is, Jordan has created such an involved world, he’s just as concerned with character building as he is with action. For me, the slow-burn works. It makes the payoff that much sweeter.
This book has plenty of payoff—anyone who’s read the series will shudder at the thought of Dumai’s Wells. The end of this book is a turning point easily as significant as any of Rand’s battles with the Forsaken.
The Wheel of Time turns …
