Pentecost’s prophetic edge does not manifest itself as an act of condemnation and withdrawal from the present in a desensitized bliss of eschatological escapism, nor of a violent, revolutionary negation of its substance. Instead, the Spirit conceives the future into the present, nurtures it, and cultivates it until this world is shaped into the age to come.
