The cover of Žižek's EventI am not qualified to review this book.

When I was learning piano, I worked my way through the graded Royal Conservatory of Music books, one through ten. While I really enjoyed playing what I already knew, it was always exciting to launch into a new level of difficulty. Žižek is my attempt to level-up my philosophical skills.

That said, Event is one of his most accessible works. It is a short six station trip through the concept of event. What makes an event . . . an actual event? Is it merely re-framing of what we already know or can an ontic newness present itself in time? Žižek explores this fundamental aspect of ontology by taking the reader on a whirlwind trip through popular and high-brow culture.

If you know something of Hegel, Freud, and Lacan and enjoy mental exercise, Event is an interesting ride.
