Christian identity thus trumps national or political identity. Biblical Christians understand that they are first of all citizens of the kingdom of God. Allegiance to one’s own nation necessarily comes second to kingdom allegiance. True Jesus-followers understand that Christians in other lands—including Iran, Afghanistan, and North Korea—are their own brothers and sisters in Christ, nearer and dearer to them than their fellow Americans who do not acknowledge Jesus. They care just as much about the welfare of people in these lands as they do for the prosperity of the United States.
