Here’s Wallace’s reflection on that little line from 1 Samuel 3:1 (ESV): “The word of the Lord was rare in those days” (in Hannah’s Prayer and Its Answer).
We can imagine that his [God's] conversation with us is out of love so sensitive that it tends to be silent when it finds that we do not even care to hear.
